Artist Statement
The stripes section of this pattern is a traditional Churn Dash also called a Monkey Wrench. It is said to have been one of the blocks used by the Underground Railroad to help lead slaves to freedom. Monkey Wrench meant to gather your tools for the journey. Some say it's speculative but its story continues to this day.
The star represents all those that came before and secured our freedoms. Our Nation and our freedom hinge on the works of individuals like myself and working together like our guild.
